New Host Working

So, I've spent the last week or so moving things over the the new host. I increased the memory allotment for our VPS, with a separate allotment for the database. We have almost three times as much now. It's working out pretty well. I am also working on eliminating some of the security issues we were having that were causing so much downtime (spammers maxing things out).

The set-up fees for the new server and the monthly hosting bill will be due Friday, and on the 27th of each month. I don't get paid again until the 2nd, so I am hoping that a few people will help out.

If you come across anything broken/ not working right, drop me a line. Thx.

New Server

When I started working on the site last week, I found out how bad things were going with the server and downtime, and it was down most of the week for me. So, I went shopping for new host for a Virtual Private Server, because the demand on memory and resources outstrips anything a shared hosting company will let us use.

I have been moving things over all weekend, but I was also waiting for the new nameservers to propogate throughout the net. Now, I am fixing permissions and references, so that everything will be working again. Most of the site should be up at this point, but there will be some issues where things point to the wrong place, that I hope to get fixed by the weekend.

I didn't realize how bad things had gotten, and I am just glad that I am able to work on getting them fixed and upgrading as I go. I'll post an update about my progress this weekend.

Help Request

It's been a long time since I have posted any 'news' on the account, and to be honest, I haven't been around much in the last year, since my life has gone through a lot of changes. I'll be posting more about that on my livejournal if anyone wants the details. However, you guys have been a lot in my thoughts. It's time again to renew the domains for the site, and it is desperately need of some housekeeping, which I will be doing this weekend, since I finally have a 3-day weekend away from the hospital. I also arranged to take a couple of vacation days this month, so next weekend will be a three day weekend too.

I'm going through my email and will be catching up on any requests there, so if you have any, please feel free to use the contact form on the site to submit them. One of the big projects that I have set for Saturday is to put the old AutoArchive files back on the server. They will be searchable, but read-only (no new stories to be added to them). All of of stories were lost or messed up when we made the transition to eFiction and one of the top emails I get is about where to find old or missing stories. Any author requests to be removed or deleted, though, will be honored to the best of my ability.

Here's where the help request comes in... I'll be doing the work regardless, because it needs to be done, and I have fallen behind in keeping up with it, but I need to ask for a favor. I didn't hold a fundraiser for the site hosting fees last year, because I was making more money and handling them, but in recent months it has been harder and harder to meet the monthly bills and the last few months, I have been late in getting the hosting fees paid. On top of that, we have run into a bit of an emergency situation where several large things have gone bad at once.... we have a huge electric bill due, our car is barely running to get me to work (I walk most days, except the tornados and storms have been bad lately), and everything is just piling on. I really need $580 by the ninth, or as soon as possible. I know that money is tight for everyone, but I am hoping that if you have $5 or $10 to spare, that you will click on the donate button in the sidebar, and help us out. Or if you decide to order from Amazon.com, that you will use this site's link as a gateway to get there. (It won't help right away, but it might help down the road) Most of all, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that everything will work out and start to look up for us. Thank you.
